ㄴ웨코문드는 죽은 자의 영혼을 단순히 변질시키는 것만으로는 충분하지 않다고 판단했다. 이성을 잃은
호로는 많을수록 유용하지만, 통제하기 어렵고 발전성이 낮다. 아이젠이 원한 것은 단순 괴물이 아니라,
자기 의지와 지성을 되찾은 채 강력한 마력을 지닌 병력 즉 아란칼이었다. 이를 위해 아이젠과
오로치마루는 인공적으로 조성된 던전들을 만들었다.
ㄴ이 던전들은 겉보기에는 폐허, 지하미궁, 버려진 연구소, 사막화된 도시, 오래된 봉인시설처럼 보인다.
하지만 실체는 영혼과 감정을 걸러내는 거대한 고독의 항아리다. 웨코문드는 사람, 죄수, 실패한 마법사,
전쟁고아, 죽은 자의 영혼, 호로화 직전의 영혼들을 그 안에 밀어 넣는다. 그리고 던전 자체를 오염시킨다.
ㄴ아이젠은 환상으로 그들의 감각과 기억을 조작한다. 오로치마루는 영혼과 육체의 경계를 약화시킨다.
아스카반에서 빠져나온 죄수들은 던전의 중심핵이 되어, 갇힌 자들을 시험하고 물들이며 하수인으로 만든다.
ㄴ그 안에서 살아남기 위해 타인을 죽인 자. 구원받지 못하고 굶주림만 남은 자. 자신이 누구인지 잊고
역할만 남은 자. 자신을 버린 세계를 증오하게 된 자. 이들은 점차 호로화된다.
ㄴ그리고 그중 극소수는 자신이 무엇이 되었는지 깨닫는다.
ㄴ그 순간 그들은 가면을 깨고, 스스로를 아란칼이라 부른다.
