산 세개를 뛰어넘을 적에 능선은 대략 여섯개를 넘어야 했다.

뛰면서 절벽을 즈려밟고, 이따금 몇번을 토산에 넘어가면서 삼십분을 내리 달리고 난 뒤에야.

그는 카미나즈키가가 만들어둔 안전 자택의 모습이라는 걸 볼 수 있었다.

그것이 육체에 의해 짓눌린 채, 안력眼力으로 쥐어짜인 순간 그는 읽었다.

이것이 과연 기우라고 해야 할지 아닐지.

그것을 알아차릴 수 없다. 하지만 그의 파지는 완전히 뒤바뀌었다.

[검을 내려놓은 채 물러서라. 네 놈은 어디에서 ─ ]

처음부터 전력으로 가야 한다. 승세는 오로지 그 순간에서만 나올 수 있는 무언가에 가까웠다.

'오만하기는.'

숨을 가라앉히자.

호흡을 눌러앉혀야 한다.

절정의 고수를 상대할 적에 필요한 모든 것이 있는지에 대한 답변은 부정이나.

그럼에도 불구하고, 이 손아귀에 담긴 검이 절정의 고수를 죽일 수 있는가 없는가를 생각하면 그것은 아닐 터이다.
