야러스 상사

야러스 상사는 쓰러진 자리에서 몸부림친다.
그의 기력은 빠져나가고, 연기와 뜨거운 공기가 고통스럽게 그의 목구멍을 오르내린다.
근처에서는 끓는 바닷물의 거품이 들린다.

그의 찢어진 배 속을 기어다니는 쥐들이 고기와 꿈틀거리는 장기를 물어뜯는다.
그는 젖은 듯한 울음소리를 내며 몸을 뒤틀고, 피가 수염과 그의 해머할리안 튜닉을 붉게 물들인다.
핏빛의 파열음이 튄다.

시그마리트들의 나머지 시신은 동굴 전체에 흩어져 있다.
몸을 웅크린 채 기어다니는 그림자들이 그들의 살점 잔해 위를 기어 다닌다.
스케이븐의 누런 천은 피에 절어 있고,
야러스는 그들 중 몇몇이 서로를 잡아먹는 것을 보았다고 생각한다.
모든 것이 미쳐버렸다면, 그들도 미친 게 당연한 것 아닐까?

팔이 부러졌음에도 야러스는 여전히 권총을 향해 손을 뻗으려 애쓴다.
싸움은 무의미하다.
갓킹의 군세도 싸우려 했고, 그 결과는 참담했다.
그는 어쩌면 이 고통을 끝내기 위해 마지막 힘을 낼 수도 있다.
그는 통증을 참으며 이를 악물고, 비명을 참기 위해 안간힘을 쓴다.
하지만 너무 늦었다.
신경은 마비되고, 몸은 떨리고, 그는 신음한다.

쥐인간 하나가 고개를 치켜든다.
그의 꼬리와 오른팔은 갈가리 찢겨나갔다.
피 묻은 침이 입에서 뚝뚝 떨어진다.

끝은 빠르지 않게 찾아온다.
